The Caledonian Canal Visitor Centre

The canal was built to protect boats from the risk of storm and stranding on the large and dangerous North coast of Scotland.

The Caledonian Canal Visitor Centre

The construction began in 1803 and terminated 20 years later under Thomas Telford management.
The Caledonian Canal Visitor Centre opens in the spring when the canal itself becomes active.

It is open every day from 9.30 to 5.30, closing one hour for lunch, and the season finishes at the end of October.

Here you can learn the history of the canal from its beginning to the present day.

You can see and buy scenic videos of local areas, find out about walks including the Great Glen, cycle rides, and of course, boating information on Loch Ness.

There is a range of good quality gifts and souvenirs, and staff will gladly assist you with any queries.
