About
Fort Augustus
Fort Augustus has been named after the old military barracks that
were blown up by Bonnie Prince Charlie's Highlanders in 1746. The
original name of the village was Cill Chuimein. Running through the the
village is the river Oich and the impressive Caledonian Canal and lock
system, built by Thomas Telford in the early 1800s.

Situated on the shores of the world famous Loch Ness, Fort Augustus is
nestled right in the centre of the stunning scenery of the Great Glen
which stretches from the east to the west coasts of Scotland.
Fort Augustus offers visitors a superb range of hotels, B&Bs, shopping,
bars and restaurants, amenities, attractions and activities, as well as
